Our Origins

Like any good invention, the ideas behind ASTRAL PUTTERS™ grew out of necessity.  Our Founder, Blake, had a hobby restoring old putters and eventually became more and more selective about the putters he restored.  What he found as his search criteria got more specific was that the universe of putter options was small, really small.  There were countless face-balance mallets, 45° toe hang Anser-style putters, and 90° heel shafted putters, but the manufacturers rarely built many putters that fit in between.  The lack of options simply didn’t gel with the industry’s emphasis on properly being fit and the importance of finding the right toe hang for a golfer’s swing.

Blake had seen the magic firsthand of getting irons and drivers fit and watching his dispersion numbers shrink before his eyes and found it shocking how limited the tools for fitting putters were by comparison.  Something was missing, and that something was an adjustable putter that gave golfers the ability to make fine tune adjustments to the club characteristics that have the biggest impact on fit – Toe Hang, Shaft Offset, and Lie Angle.

In a bizarre twist of fate, Blake found himself confined to bed with COVID in 2022 with nothing but time and he started conceptualizing and drawing his ideas.  Blake’s drawings and ideas advanced and he started working with his father, Charles, to print 3D models to see if his theories had merit.  After a few evolutions of design, Blake and Charles knew the next step was creating a proper prototype.  They found themselves at a crossroad – whether to teach themselves how to machine parts or hire someone to help with the prototype.  Blake bought a CNC machine, had it delivered to his father, and they set out with an incredibly ambitious goal of teaching themselves from scratch how to machine parts with some of the most exacting standards.  Getting the protype right before handing it off to machinists was critical. The learning curve was steep, but perseverance prevailed. The journey was as important as the destination, and what came from their toils was an incredible product and a father/son experience that most people could only dream of.

MEET OUR TEAM

Our team is the core of what makes our products and company so special. We each had successful careers outside the golf industry, and a lot of people thought it was positively crazy that we were taking a leap on a revolutionary new way to build and fit putters.  What those people don’t know about us is that taking the leap with ASTRAL PUTTERS™ is about much more than simply building putters.  It is about building a company we are proud of, about prioritizing family and happiness, and about the pride and satisfaction that comes from putting (no pun intended) a smile on someone else’s face.

  • Blake Callaway

    CEO & Founder

Blake is our founder and the man behind our revolutionary product designs. If Blake has one (or a few) things going for him, it’s the confidence to try new things, his entrepreneurial drive and spirit, and the stubbornness to refuse to quit. And that really is the story of the origins of ASTRAL PUTTERS™. It started with Blake being a lawyer by day, inventor by night, and golfer by weekend. Blake was disappointed with his putting game and even more disappointed to find that there was shockingly little ability to adapt putters to fit his desired specs … let alone actually experiment with and try alternative putter configurations. He knew there was a better way, and he’s spent every day since focused on bringing his new and unconventional ideas to life.

  • Charles Callaway

    Can-Do Specialist

Charles is Blake’s father, and without Charles, there would be no ASTRAL PUTTERS™. Charles was the initial sounding board for Blake’s ideas, a devil’s advocate with a critical and demanding eye, and a key source of many of the solutions that were essential to transform grand ideas into a tangible product. Charles took on the daunting task of learning to CNC machine parts, and starting from zero experience advanced his skills to a place of building prototypes and production putters with tolerances down to 0.001”. Many, including Charles, doubted whether it was feasible to cover the amount of ground needed create parts of the level of sophistication needed. Yet when Blake asked, he always and only said “yes, we can try.”

  • Janeen Cameron

    COO & Partner

Janeen is not a golfer, but is working on her putting game. She wasn’t in product design or supply chain logistics (at least before ASTRAL PUTTERS™). Janeen was the no nonsense, head-down, mind over matter friend that Blake knew from day one was the yin to his yang. Janeen was advancing up the corporate ladder fresh off the heels of the most important promotion of her life when Blake went and ruined it all by telling her she was still underemployed and he had the perfect opportunity for her. A promise of something different layered with challenges, flattery, and no assurances of stability was all she needed to hear to join ASTRAL PUTTERS™. Once a risk-taker, always a risk-taker.

  • Jeremy Cost

    Partner

Jeremy is our resident golf fanatic with a 20 year history of connecting people to innovative technology. When we were looking for someone with a high golf IQ, never ending passion for the sport and loads of experience with cutting edge technology, we knew Jeremy was our guy. Jeremy fell in love with the sport when he and his dad would take days off from farming to play their local course in North Dakota. Wanting his daughter to experience the same love, Jeremy started the first girls golf program at North High school in Denver, going on to win coach of the year at Denver Public Schools twice in three years. Jeremy loves the connections and opportunities that the game of golf creates and while he doesn't like to admit it, he understands the frustrations just as well. When Jeremy saw the gap in the industry that ASTRAL PUTTERS™ was filling, he couldn't wait to be a part of it.
